Questions and answers

What is the book?
A personalised square hardcover picture book. It stars your child and their favourite toy, in the story you choose. You can also buy it as a PDF.
How much does it cost?
A hardcover is £39, or $54 in the US, and US$68 in Hong Kong and Jamaica, with free delivery. A PDF is £9, or $10 in the US. UK, Australian, New Zealand and Hong Kong prices are what you pay, and in Jamaica the price is what you pay for one book. In the US and Canada, sales tax is added at checkout.
Is there a colouring book?
Free with every book: a colouring book of the same story, as a PDF to print at home.
Can I see the book before I pay?
Yes. You see the drawings of your child and their toy first. Then you read the whole story and see 4 sample pages. You only pay when you're happy.
How are the pictures and words made?
The pictures are made with AI tools, in our Paper and Pencil style. We write each story in advance with help from AI tools, and AI tools fit its words to your child's age and add your child and their toy. After you pay, a person checks every page before it's printed.
Are you copying artists' work?
No artist's pictures go into your book. Our style comes from public-domain picture books by artists who died long ago, and we tell the AI never to copy a named artist. The AI tool that draws the pictures was trained by Google on large collections of pictures, which some artists object to. Our How this was made page says more.
What do the pictures look like?
Every book is made in our Paper and Pencil style: soft pencil lines and light watercolour washes.
What is the story about?
There are five to choose from: a bedtime story, a rainy afternoon at home, a walk to the post office, a visitor with a tin, and a frosty evening in the garden. Three of them have a Christmas version.
Is it right for my child's age?
Yes, for children aged 2 to 7. Up to age 5 the book is 24 pages, with big, simple words. From age 6 it's 32 pages with a longer story. The price is the same.
Can I add a dedication?
Yes, free. While the drawings are being made, you can write a few words for the first page. We start it for you; change it, or clear it to leave the page without one.
What happens to the photos I upload?
We only use your photos to make your book. Photos are deleted 7 days after we approve your book. Books not finished: removed 30 days after your last visit.
How do I delete my data?
Go to your account and choose "Delete my data". We email you a link to confirm. We usually finish within 24 hours, and always within 30 days.
Where do you deliver?
We deliver hardcovers to the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Jamaica, and delivery is free. Please allow up to three weeks: we take a day or two to check every page, printing usually takes 3 to 5 working days (up to 10 in November and December), then the post, which is usually a few days but can occasionally take longer. For Christmas, order by 20 November in the UK, 19 November in the US, 12 November in Canada, 16 November in Australia, 4 November in New Zealand, 2 November in Hong Kong and 11 November in Jamaica. Import taxes may apply.
Will it arrive before Christmas?
Order a hardcover by 20 November in the UK, 19 November in the US, 12 November in Canada, 16 November in Australia, 4 November in New Zealand, 2 November in Hong Kong or 11 November in Jamaica. These are estimates, worked back from the carriers' last posting days. After them, a hardcover may not arrive before Christmas. You can still choose a PDF where it is on sale.
Can I return a book?
Personalised books are made for you, so they can't be returned because you've changed your mind. If your book arrives damaged, lost, with a printing fault, or different from what you approved, we'll put it right at no cost or refund you. Your legal rights are not affected.
Can I give a book as a gift?
Yes. No photo is needed to buy a code. The person you give it to makes the book when they're ready. Gift codes never expire. A pack of 12 codes is £399.
